Beyond the Prototype

I have my product design. Now what?

Once you have taken a product idea from paper to actual 3D prototype, the next step will be to find a manufacturer.  One of the key steps will be finding a vendor who can take your idea and turn it into actual production.

When working with a vendor, the main objective is for the vendor to “see” what you want. Unless they fully understand your product, it will be difficult (if not impossible) for them to bring your product to life in the way you intended. By giving your vendor an actual prototype part that they can hold and study you are reducing the turn-around time on receiving the quotation you need as well as eliminating a multitude of potential issues by reducing the possibility for errors in interpretation of drawings.

No two vendors are alike. They will all provide different levels of technology and their own preferred methods. Aside from reducing the development time, you are also giving the vendor the best opportunity possible to serve you to their fullest potential. They may see things in the prototype that could be fine-tuned or “tweaked” to fit their unique process, which will allow them to optimize mass production, which in turn lowers the overall cost to you.

The time you invest in creating a working prototype with Gjerde Design Consulting will save you time and money. Let's get started!
